Tip of the Day: Fingers you can eat

This is a food tip that I practise often on my child. My parents and grandparents often included this particular veggie in their diet. Ladies' Fingers is something that is actually nutritious to eat, despite all the slime it produces.

In my country, almost all major races (Malays, Chinese, Indians) use this particular veggie in their cooking. I've seen curry that has ladies' fingers in it, but mostly it incorporated as part of a 'mixed steamed/ boiled veggie' cooking. That's what I normally cook.

Nutrition-wise, this veggie is rich in Calcium, so it is a good supplement for those not drinking milk on a daily basis. It also provides the regular fiber your stomach needs to aid digestion and produce a healthy 'solid waste'. Other than that, it also contains vitamin B, and the usual protein and carbohydrates.

Old folks have always recommended ladies' fingers for the development of children's mental capabilities - brain power, to be exact. It is also traditionally recommended for pregnant women to make delivery a less painful experience.

So, eat up, kids and mommies - life is hard enough as it is. Ciao.
