Tip of the Day: The Natural Isotonic Drink - Coconut Water?

Did you know that coconut water is isotonic? Bet most of you don't. It is naturally nutritious too, and doesn't even have a lot of sodium (which makes you fat) plus more potassium than most isotonic or energy drinks.

If you look at it from one perspective, coconut is a complete food for us. The water's isotonic, the insides (white, jelly-like contents) can be eaten (or can be made into coconut oil), and even the insides of the tree bark can be turned into a delicious Malaysian traditional dish.

For those of you who still do not believe me, here's another fact: It has Lauric Acid, the same thing that mother's milk have and artificial, processed milk lacks. It is even more healthy than whole milk, having less fat and no cholesterol! This should be good for us women. And there's more - it is naturally sterile, since water permeates through its husk.

But the really interesting stuff is when you look back into history, you can find that it has also been used in plasma transfusions, because it is identical to human blood plasma. You have to be nuts not to eat something this healthy, nutritious and beneficial. Careful, though - once you pry open the shell, the water and jelly-like insides have to be consumed immediately - it loses its nutritional properties as soon as it ferments.

There, that's enough facts for such a common (in my country) fruit. I know it isn't available in many parts of the world, but try it if you come across it. Many traditional practitioners recommend it for heart, liver and kidney disorders as well as chicken pox.
