Tip of the Day: How to lead a Healthy Life

Went to a free health talk organised by the Ministry of Health the other day - it's near to my house, and I had a lot of time to kill. Turns out to be quite informative as well, to us laymen. Here's a few ideas from the talk I'd like to share:

1. Eat Healthy
Variety is the key here, but not variety of the fattening type. Base what you want to eat on the Food Pyramid - the Malaysian Food Pyramid's HERE.
A lot of obesity cases, when traced to lifestyle, reveals that inactivity is the key - not overeating. So, if you eat more, do more work around the house - don't just be a permanent couch potato. For the ladies (who have more fat-to bodyweight-ratio, start going to the kitchen more. Cooking does burn some serious calories, y'know.
And one more thing - use less oil, meaning less fried and fatty foods. If you must, use oils that are healthy - i.e sunflower oil etc. Less sugar is also recommended, so keep your sweet tooth under the pillow.

2. Play Healthy
Get up and do some exercises. Take a break when watching that DVD movie for five minutes and stretch your body. Try to accumulate at least 30 minutes a day for exercising - ACCUMULATE, not do it in one shot (trust me, you'll never find the time). IF you're too lazy, use the fitball to sit on - at least it'll correct your posture, and maybe you'll be urged to do some light fitball exercises. Most men don't need advice - they know how to sweat, it's the geeks that need help.
ADVICE: Get your kids off the Playstation set if they've been at it for too long, get them accustomed to outside activities, it'll help them in the long term.

3. Work Healthy
As a worker (even if you're the boss), you have to know how to manage stress. One of the main problems of stress buildup is your inability to think rationally when trying to solve problems. Get professional help, use some lateral thinking techniques, find what ever informational tools you need for problem solving. This will lessen your stress at the workplace significantly.
