Tip of the Day: Huh? - what's RMR?
Have you ever wondered why some people just naturally don't gain weight no matter how much they eat? And some people just have the tendency to gain weight even when they eat normally?
There's the inactivity factor, as opposed by merely overeating (that's HERE), but there's also something called Resting Metabolism Rate (RMR). What it actually is about is that there is a certain rate of metabolism in everyone, and there are factors that can influence the increase and decrease of that rate. The higher the rate, the faster you burn off the fat, even when doing nothing.
The factors that influence RMR are:
1. Bulk (Muscle) - The more muscle you have, the more you metabolise 'at idle'. That is why exercise is good for you. Ever seen Extreme Makeover? Almost everybody is recommended some form of weight training. It's simple really, bulk up - and you lose the fat faster.
2. Activity - Don't be a couch potato. Even if you can't bulk up (how many women want to, honestly?) there's still the option of raising metabolism during activity periods. So, do some common sense things - walk more, take the stairs, carry more weight around the house etc. 30 minutes of accumulated exercise daily is good practise.
3. Age - There's not a lot you can do when you get older, as our metabolism rate slows down. To compensate, we have to do more exercise.
There are other factors that actually contribute to RMR, but too technical to explain here. Anyway, the first two points above are the most important things when considering RMR and managing it.
So, get up and go do something. Don't just sit there and read my blog.......Shoo....hahahhaha. Ciao.
